Wednesday 4-16-14

Hello Community Group,
This week will be an interesting one as we participate in a Seder Meal.  We will meat at the Yates this week.

Here are instructions from Josh:

Leading into Easter week,
Jesus had supper with his disciples the night before he would be crucified (called The Last Supper). This meal was itself part of the celebration of the Jewish Passover, where Jews eat and remember when God delivered them from slavery in Egypt (if you have the Gospel Story Bible, read pages 60-64 which highlight the plagues and the first Passover). Knowing that He would be put to death in a few hours, Jesus told his disciples that He "eagerly desired to celebrate this Passover with you before I suffer" (Luke 22:15). At this celebration, He took elements of the Passover (the unleavened bread and the wine cup) and identified them as his body and blood, symbolizing his death.
We'll talk through more this Wednesday to give you a deeper picture of Jesus as our Passover lamb.
Please bring one or two items below from the main meal list and/or the Passover supply list...
Main meal:
Roasted Chicken & Veggies- Yates
Roasted Veggies - Crosswhites
Green Salad - Penners, Krajcar
Rice Pilaf - Munden
Dessert ideas (think flourless)- macaroons, flourless chocolate cake, caramel matzoh crunch (google this! it's like toffee or brittle) - Krajcar

For the Passover: (Albertsons has a separate section for Kosher items that is always stocked with matzohs and juice)
Matzoh, 3 boxes - Rob
Kosher Red Wine, 2 bottles - Krajcar
Kosher Grape Juice, 1 bottle (for the kiddos) - Rob
Parsley, one bunch - Rob
Boiled Egg, one - Krajcar
Charoseth- Yates
Horseradish Root - Penner

I know some of the things seem odd, but all have symbolism. Thanks everyone!

  5. My salad is boring! I didn't notice that Penners are bringing one. Maybe I'll just bring my lettuce as backup :)

  6. Also, I only have a couple of dessert items and they are small. One more might be useful, if anyone is reading the blog now and trying to figure out what they might bring! :)
